About Us

Decades of work catalyzing systemic change.

Since 1991, United WE has been a breaking down barriers to women's economic growth and leadership. Through research, policy solutions, and civic engagement, we work to create a future where everyone thrives—because improving opportunities for women benefits us all. Our nonpartisan, research-backed approach has driven meaningful change across the nation, proving that when women succeed, communities and economies flourish.

Our Story

Our journey began in 1991 as the Women’s Foundation, founded in response to the stark reality that only 4% of Kansas City charitable giving supported women and girls. Recognizing this disparity, we committed to using data-driven research to advocate for change—an approach that continues to define our work today.

In 2013, Wendy Doyle became the first CEO dedicated to addressing the economic well-being of women and their families across the region. Under her leadership, the Women’s Foundation championed policy and research-driven solutions that empower women to achieve economic self-sufficiency and drive economic growth.

After nearly three decades of impact in Kansas and Missouri, we evolved into United WE, expanding our mission and reach nationwide. Inspired by the undeniable evidence that when women have equal opportunities, everyone benefits, we remain committed to advancing women’s economic participation and civic leadership—because a stronger, more inclusive economy lifts us all.

Though our name and look have evolved, our purpose remains the same: to build a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Our Work

United WE recognizes that empowering women requires a multi-faceted approach. Our focus on key areas aims to break down the systemic barriers that limit women's economic and social mobility. By addressing these critical issues, we create a culture of opportunity where women can reach their full potential, elevating society as a whole.
