United WE Statement on Missouri Governor’s Appointment of Catherine Hanaway as First Female Attorney General in Missouri History

(KANSAS CITY, MO) – United WE, a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit headquartered in Missouri and dedicated to advancing women’s economic and civic leadership, issued the following statement in response to Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe’s historic decision to appoint Catherine Hanaway as the first female Attorney General in the state’s history. 

“The appointment of the first female attorney general in Missouri's history is a significant milestone for our state,” said Wendy Doyle, President & CEO, United WE. “As an organization that works to advance systemic change to increase economic and civic opportunities for all women, we commend Governor Kehoe and congratulate Catherine Hanaway on her appointment. This appointment inspires future generations of women to see themselves at the highest levels of justice and public service.” 

Based on the results of a landmark study by United WE, the Appointments Project works with elected officials around the state to increase women’s civic participation, improve policy outcomes, and make boards and commissions more representative of the communities they serve. To date, The program has helped more than 250 women secure positions on appointed boards and commissions.
